Con mucha emoción tengo el gusto de anunciar que mi libro ABCirco, publicado por Camelia Ediciones, ha sido seleccionado para la exposición The White Ravens 2012 que la Internationale Jugendbibliothek organiza anualmente en el marco de la Fiera del Libro per Ragazzi de Bologna. La exposición contiene 250 libros infantiles y juveniles en más de 30 idiomas y procedente de unos 50 países. Los títulos han sido escogidos entre los miles de libros que esta biblioteca recibió como donaciones durante el año pasado. Quienes pasen por la feria de Bologna podrán verlo en el stand de la IJB.
This volume is an attractive example of the beloved genre of artistic alphabet picture books, which takes on ever new thematic and formal variations. As suggested by the wordplay in the title, the Venezuelan illustrator here presents a circus of a somewhat different sort. A member of the unusual troupe can be seen on every page, including a “flowery fakir”, “robotic rats”, “Siamese saxophonists”, and a “unique unicorn”. The pages are constructed in a uniform style reminiscent of the advertisement posters of yesteryear. The monochromatic dark blue circus creatures stand in front of big yellow letters. Expressive, with corners and edges, they bear a resemblance to wood cuts. A fine book that encourages word invention and alliteration.
